![]() Pioneers of the late 1970s US punk-rock scene, The Misfits classic line-up, featuring Glenn Danzig and Jerry Only, lasted just 6 years - during which time they released two albums (Static Age was recorded in 1978 but not released until 1997), three EPs and six singles - although during this tenure they became the most influential American punks to emerge during the first wave. Drawing on elements of rockabilly and heavy metal as well as horror themes, The Misfits helped bridge the transition from late '70s Ramones-esque punk to the more aggressive hardcore sound of the early '80s. They were also well-known for their shocking imagery and stage presence, which led to their founding of the "horror punk" genre. In support of their Walk Among Us album, The Misfits embarked on a 37-date tour of the United States, during which the group performed three shows at New York's Irving Plaza, and it is their performance from the 27th March 1982 that's featured on the new import CD entitled Wasp Queens. (you order it HERE) Broadcast live over FM radio and featuring a host of tracks from across their career, plus numbers that would later appear on Earth AD / Wolfs Blood in 1983, this seminal band deliver a blistering set full of the style of dark passion and energy that singled out The Misfits from so many second rate punk bands around the USA at a similar time. Long Strange Trip to play special one-night screening events on May 25th ahead of theatrical release on May 26th, and Amazon Prime Video on June 2nd.
Amazon Studios and Abramorama are proud to announce that Long Strange Trip, Amir Bar-Lev’s critically acclaimed documentary about the Grateful Dead, will be shown in theaters across the U.S. to give fans an opportunity to experience the documentary on the big screen prior to its New York and Los Angeles release on May 26th. Following its release in theaters, the documentary will come exclusively to Amazon Prime Video on June 2nd. For tickets and a list of theaters and ticket availability go to LongStrangeTripDoc.com. Long Strange Trip marks the first time Amazon Original Movies and Amazon Original Series have partnered on an original project to be released in both theaters by Abramorama and on Prime. Long Strange Trip was acquired by Amazon Studios ahead of its world premiere at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival. Directed by Amir Bar-Lev (The Tillman Story) and executive produced by Martin Scorsese (No Direction Home: Bob Dylan), Long Strange Trip is the first full-length documentary to explore the fiercely independent vision, perpetual innovation, and uncompromising commitment to their audience that made the Bay Area band one of the most influential musical groups of their generation. Artfully assembling candid interviews with the band, road crew, family members and notable Deadheads, Bar-Lev reveals the untold history of The Dead and the freewheeling psychedelic subculture that sprouted up around it. The film also provides poignant insight into the psyche of late lead guitarist Jerry Garcia, whose disdain for authority clashed with his de facto leadership of the sprawling collective that kept the show on the road. With a soundtrack that captures some of the band’s most dynamic live performances, as well as unguarded offstage moments and never-before-seen interviews, footage and photos, Long Strange Trip explores The Dead’s singular experiment in radically eclectic music making. Much more than the “behind the music” backstory of an exceptionally talented and beloved group of musicians, the film is at once an inspiring tale of unfettered artistic expression, a heartfelt American tragedy and an incisive history of the rise and fall of 20th-century counterculture. The official soundtrack to Long Strange Trip, featuring rare and unreleased Grateful Dead recordings, will be released by Rhino in conjunction with the documentary premiere and is available on Amazon Music. Long Strange Trip is produced by Eric Eisner (Hamlet 2), Nick Koskoff (Bad Hurt), Justin Kreutzmann (The First Waltz), Ken Dornstein (My Brother’s Bomber) and Alex Blavatnik(For the Love of Spock). Long Strange Trip is executive produced by Emma Tillinger Koskoff (The Wolf of Wall Street), Rick Yorn (The Wolf of Wall Street), Thomas J. Mangan IV (The Jack Bull), Alicia Sams (Deceptive Practice: The Mysteries and Mentors of Ricky Jay), Phil Lesh, Bob Weir, Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, Andy Heller, and Sandy Heller.Long Strange Trip is co-executive produced by Trixie Garcia. On Saturday night, the band made a triumphant return at a sold out Stone Pony in Asbury Park - sitting on a specially built 'throne' created by his band mates and crew, Captain appeared to be feeling no pain as he blasted through the 90 minute set (plus two encores), confirming that the 40th anniversary tour is definitely back on! "As movement is a bit awkward currently, I played last night seated, but it all went swimmingly and this epic 40th Anniversary tour is now firmly back on the road. We've played some great venues on the trip... and Asbury Park's Stone Pony is up there with the best of 'em. But I have to say I wish I'd waited till here before back flipping off the stage, as this one was only 3 feet high. D'oh!” - Captain Sensible The Damned also announce a new label deal with Raw Power Management, the international artist management company, who have signed the legendary band to their label, Search and Destroy, a joint venture with Spinefarm Records/Universal. This new venture will see The Damned release their first new album for nearly ten years on Search and Destroy. The as-yet-unnamed new album will be recorded this summer and is the follow up to, ‘So, Who’s Paranoid?’, which came out in 2008. Formed in 1976, The Damned really need no introduction… As well as releasing the first ever British punk single and album, they also broke further new ground as the first UK punk act to tour America. Cited as one of the most influential punk groups of all time, they also contributed vastly to the gothic rock genre and influenced an entire generation of future hardcore punk bands such as Black Flag and Bad Brains, with their fast paced energetic playing style and attitude, as well as heavyweights such as Green Day and Guns ’N’ Roses (the latter acknowledged the debt when they covered “New Rose” on their 1993 album, ‘The Spaghetti Incident’). Along with the Sex Pistols and The Clash, the Damned helped spearhead the punk movement in the UK and they continue to wave the flag for originality, stick two fingers up to mediocrity and celebrate a DIY punk ethos in the face of plastic entertainment and scripted reality, four decades and ten albums later (and still on the road). The band's hugely influential classic debut single, 'New Rose', celebrated its 40th anniversary last November with a limited edition 7” release via BMG. Featuring original artwork, picture disc and exclusive fold out poster, it's a must have collectable release of one of the most influential records of all time. Their classic debut long-player, ‘Damned Damned Damned’ (the very first British punk album), was originally released by Stiff Records on February 18th 1977 and, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the band’s dramatic breakthrough, BMG also released a very special Art Of The Album: Deluxe Edition of that incredible debut album on February 17th, almost exactly 40 years to the day since its original issue. Currently on a world tour, the band's two month North American run began in Los Angeles April 6th, and they also play a series of UK festivals this summer (check the band's website for details). David Vanian, Captain Sensible, Monty Oxymoron, Andrew 'Pinch' Pinching, and Stu West will head back into the studio after the North American dates to start work on a brand new album, their first since 2008's 'So, Who's Paranoid?' A pre-order link for the CD, colored vinyl, as well as exclusive merch (and experiences) is available at PledgeMusic. The band recenly signed to Search & Destroy and will have more details regarding the new record in the coming weeks.
