Today, WINDHAND unveil their sinister new video, "Red Cloud". Director and animator Zev Deans follows the exploits of a washed-up Warlock and his imbecilic Henchman as they attempt to summon The Scarlet Woman. It's saturated with the visual style of technicolor horror and blends live-action with animated scenery. "Red Cloud" is equal parts homage to and satire of the psych-horror of the 1960's, specifically the works of Jean Rollin and Roger Corman's Poe series and it's here just in time for Halloween. "Red Cloud" is the latest single from the Windhand's highly acclaimed, Eternal Return, released earlier this month on Relapse. The album is a complete life-to-death journey. As unplanned things go, it's an observation of as well as a reflection on life's ups and downs, joys and sorrows, beginnings and ends. In recent years, WINDHANDwelcomed new life, survived lineup changes, and mourned unexpected death. The songs and song ordering are the direct result of those experiences. WINDHAND’s 4th studio album Eternal Return is out now on CD/2xLP/CS/Digital on Relapse Records. Physical packages are available for order HERE and Digital Downloads/Streaming AT THIS LOCATION. Eternal Return, produced by Jack Endino (Soundgarden, Nirvana), represents a new era for the group, a chrysalis moment that takes them to new and unforeseen heights. Boosted by Garrett Morris' consistently cool riffs-forged at the crossroads of Iommi's otherworldly import and Kurt Cobain's spontaneous precocity-powered by Ryan Wolfeand Parker Chandler's groove-laden rhythms, and propelled by Dorthia Cottrell's smoky yet wistful vocals, WINDHAND's new album is a two-step jump for Richmond's finest purveyors of the psycho-actively heavy. WINDHAND continue on their extensive North American tour tomorrow in support of Eternal Return tomorrow in Philadelphia. Check below for a full list of dates. ![]() Joe Keithley of D.O.A. has made numerous attempts to break into politics over the years, and now it's finally paid off. EXCLAIM! reports that the singer has officially been elected to Burnaby city council. Burnaby - located just outside of Vancouver - has eight city council seats, and Keithley came in eighth place with 15,745 votes. That's just 215 ahead of the first runner-up, Baljinder K. Narang. Keithley represents the Green Party, which is especially significant because he has broken the Burnaby Citizens Association's monopoly on the city council. The centerpiece of Joe's campaign was standing up against people who are being thrown out of their homes (demovitions) and making housing a right, not a privilege. His past political campaigns over the years have included running with the Green Party in provincial elections in 1996 and 2001. He also sought NDP nomination in the 2013 provincial election, before returning to the Green Party for an unsuccessful by-election run in 2015, followed by another run in 2017. Earlier this year, he announced plans to run for mayor. D.O.A.'s new album called Fight Back is being hailed as their most innovative album since War on 45 (1982). The band has always been on the pulse of what's going on in the political world. "When you really think about it, income inequality and disparity is at the root of a lot huge problems, like environmental degradation, war, sexism and hate" said Keithley who has been fighting the good fight for the last 40 years. It's why he's made TALK - ACTION = 0 his lifelong mantra. Fight Back, released on Keithley's own label Sudden Death Records, is a scathing and timely piece. Joe deals with all manner of unseemly low characters and issues. The album opens with acerbic "You Need an Ass Kickin' Right Now," next rips right into the startling "Killer Cops," then smashes into the anthemic "Time To Fight Back," which is street punk resistance at its fiercest. The album proceeds with the timely "Gonna Set You Straight" with violent and natural ease, and continues with the vitriolic "I Just Got Back From the USA." Then, the album takes a funny twist with "We Won't Drink This Piss" (down with bad corporate beer!) and "You Can't Stop Me," a song in which Joe delves into the character of Slapshot's playing coach Reggie Dunlop (a natural alter ego perhaps). Since 2013, Miscalculations have been creating amazingly agitated yet melodic punk rock from their home base in London. They have released four full length albums (Miscalculations, A View For Glass Eyes, Kill The Whole Cast and Echolocation) as well as a handful of 7" records, one being a split with The Stitches.
Sharp Solution, which was recently released on limited edition white vinyl via Rockstar Records (Germany), raises the bar on the band's precise brand of electro-sprinkled punk rock. Helmed by charismatic front man Marco Palumbo Rodrigues the band features Mauro Venegas (guitar), Robert Persson (bass), and Shaun Clark (drums). You can hear all of Sharp Solution now on Bandcamp. TRACKLIST:
DINOSAUR JR. need no introduction. One of the most successful and influential alternative guitar bands from America, and fronted by laconic singer/guitarist J. Mascis, they've enjoyed global success and inspired generations, from Grunge onwards.
First issued in 2002 only in the States and Australia, EAR BLEEDING COUNTRY is the only career-spanning compilation of Dinosaur Jr. This is the first time this collection has been made available outside of those territories. With the full support of the band, EAR BLEEDING COUNTRY now boasts a whole second CD of highlights from the band's career, bringing the story up-to-date in 2018, with selections chosen by the band's huge fan base. The first six tracks on Disc 1 and the first three tracks on Disc 2 are drawn from the band's early career in the 1980s, when they recorded for independent labels like Homestead and SST. Among them are the classic single 'Freak Scene' and the follow-up cover of The Cure's 'Just Like Heaven'. Most of the compilation samples the best of Dinosaur Jr.'s output after signing with Warner Bros in 1990, including hit singles such as 'The Wagon', 'Whatever's Cool With Me', 'Out There', 'Start Choppin' and 'Feel The Pain'. Also included are two tracks by J. Mascis' post-Dinosaur Jr. band The Fog and tracks from Dinosaur Jr.'s more recent albums (issued since 2002, when Ear Bleeding Country originally came out), including the band's most recent single 'Hold Unknown' This package has now been remastered and includes original sleeve-notes by Byron Coley and a new introductory essay from Dinosaur Jr. fan Henry Rollins. It will be available on October 26th, but you can pre-order it HERE. |
