Back in 1990, Brisk Iced Tea ran a commercial featuring puppet versions of Rocky Balboa and his trainer Mickey. The stylized puppets are now getting a retail release from NECA, based on the actual props used in the commercial. The statues made their debut at Toy Fair 2017.
The official release statement reads:
The phenomenally successful Rocky saga is a part of American pop culture, with its inspiring tale of a small-time boxer determined to prove his worth to the world.
These limited edition maquettes (statues) are based on a famous stopmotion commercial from the late 1990s that starred Rocky and his trainer Mickey in puppet form. Even in stylized form, those two had selling power!
Working from the actual puppets used to make the commercial, we’ve reproduced Rocky and Mickey as extra-detailed maquettes. Rocky stands approximately 12” tall and has fabric boxing shorts. Mickey stands approximately 10” tall and features fabric hat and clothing. Both statues are in accurate scale to each other and have movable eyes that can be positioned in various directions. Comes with two display bases.
Holy crap. NECA, who makes the best Predator and alien toys in the world are really stepping it up. Available later this year they are unveiling these amazing sets.
Batman vs the Predator, Superman vs Alien, and a special Batman vs Joker Alien set. I for one cannot wait, they can take my money now!
Alex Pardee's "The Astronaut" might be the coolest fucking designer toy ever made. But this is just the "Abominable Edition" there are a few others
Toy Qube says, "We went to Mars with Alex Pardee and got involved in some parasitic experiments and then came home and made TOYS based on our nightmares! The Astronaut is 10-inches tall and cast in extraterrestrial goo. We worked hard on bringing this alien to life, and we love him."
Pardee is an incredibly talented and unique visual artist who works as an apparel designer, a comics producer, and a freelancer art creator. He has also done works for Hurley International, Twenty Twenty Skateboards, Bay Area rapper TopR, Upper Playground, Street Drum Corps, Aiden, Kid Robot, and Toy Qube.
In 2015, Pardee collaborated on "I Got Your Back" with hip hop artist Justin Bua who described Pardee as "a prolific artist who's imagination is populated with wicked, warped, and wacky characters that walk a tightrope between playful and grotesque. His artistic world inspires all artists to not only strive for greatness, but more importantly, to have fun."
Pardee says, "I’m inspired by old cartoons. By the way guys in nice suits would painstakingly draw thousands of frames of a frog wiggling back and forth without any actual assurance that it would work. I’m inspired by people without expectation to succeed but with enough passion to excel on their own, and by artists who somehow find a way to make a living by creating entire universes that didn’t exist before they made them, but now will never be forgotten."

Super7 has done it again. This time the classic rubber figures known as M.U.S.C.L.E. return in the form of Masters of the Universe, Street Fighter, Alien, and more on the horizon (we think).
Yes, it's the pink plastic that we all know and love, but Super7 has gone above and beyond by offering many different colors in sets and even that goddamn clear trash can we all adore for some reason.
And if that wasn't enough to drain your wallet, the Street Fighter series arriving this week will...
