These three superheroes are HEADS above the rest! From cult director Richard Elfman (THE FORBIDDEN ZONE) and producer Charles Band comes SHRUNKEN HEADS, a legendary comedy horror head-trip available now on Blu-ray for the first time, remastered from the original 35mm camera negative! When three inner city kids are murdered in a gangland showdown gone wrong, a mysterious witch doctor opts to drag them back from the grave. Well, most of them anyway! The voodoo priest leaves the boys' bodies and only reanimates their heads. Now, this trio of floating craniums are left to fly around New York with only one thing on their minds: revenge! Elfman fills the screen with his patented blend of absurdity, grand guignol effects, dark humor and surreal insanity and gives the beautiful Meg Foster (THEY LIVE, LORDS OF SALEM) one of her wildest roles, that of lesbian crime kingpin Big Moe. Powered by original music from Elfman's brother, the award winning composer Danny Elfman (BATMAN, THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS, BEETLEJUICE), a delirious score by the great Richard Band (RE-ANIMATOR, PUPPET MASTER) and slick cinematography by Stephen McNutt (BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, THE DEAD ZONE), SHRUNKEN HEADS is one the weirdest and coolest Full Moon classics ever! Get ready to flip your lid and lose your mind! Bonus Materials Main title music by Danny Elfman. Behind the scenes featurette. Shot on location in Florida surf and Rome swimming pools, D'Amato combines '80s teen movie cliches and Native American mysticism with stupefying dialogue, over-the-top performances and shark footage that Bruno Mattei would later swipe for CRUEL JAWS to create what Oh, The Horror! calls "a weird, demented experience that begs to be discovered and embraced." A cast of local unknowns - along with, inexplicably, the '60s comedy team of Charlie Brill & Mitzi McCall - star in this last word in Italian Sharksploitation, now scanned in 2K from the original negative for the first time ever. Alejandra is a housewife, raising two boys with husband Angel in a small city. Her brother Fabian works as a nurse in a local hospital. Their provincial lives are upset with the arrival of the mysterious Veronica. Sex and love can be fragile in certain regions where strong family values, hypocrisy, homophobia, and male chauvinism exist. Veronica convinces them that in the nearby woods, inside an isolated cabin, dwells something not of this world that could be the answer to all of their problems. Something whose force they cannot resist and with whom they must make peace or suffer its wrath. Escalante’s film mixes Lovecraftian science fiction with social commentary as he tackles themes including corruption and social injustice, with a dose of inspiration from Zulawski’s Possession, producing a mix that has won acclaim including the Silver Lion at the prestigious Venice Film Festival and Best Director at Austin’s Fantastic Fest. Wells' classic character (though undoubtedly also indebted to Universal's iconic film series) are two of the earliest examples of tokusatsu (special effects) cinema from the legendary Daiei Studios. In The Invisible Man Appears, written and directed by Nobuo Adachi in 1949, a scientist successfully creates an invisibility serum, only to be kidnapped by a gang of thugs who wish to use the formula to rob a priceless jewel. In addition to being the earliest surviving Japanese science fiction film ever made, the film's entertaining special effects were an early credit for the legendary Eiji Tsuburaya, five years before he first brought Godzilla to life. Eight years later, Mitsuo Murayama's exciting The Invisible Man vs. The Human Fly tells the story of a series of mysterious murders where the only clue is strange buzzing noise at the scene of the crime... could this be linked to secret wartime experiments in shrinking humans to the size of insects? And can a scientist who's just invented an invisibility ray be the one to stop it? Murder her deed. Death Has Blue Eyes is a gripping paranormal action thriller with shades of giallo from the director of the cult classic video nasty Island of Death (1976). When local gigolo Chess (Chris Nomikos) greets his vacationing friend Bob Kovalski (Peter Winter) at Athens airport, the pair embark on a string of scams and erotic dalliances that eventually lead them into contact with an elegant wealthy woman, Geraldine Steinwetz (Jessica Dublin), and her glamorous daughter Christine (Maria Aliferi). Geraldine blackmails the two cheeky bachelor boys into acting as bodyguards for Christine, whom it transpires has telepathic abilities and has had her eye on them for some time. After fleeing from a series of assassination attempts, it soon becomes clear that Geraldine herself might not be quite whom she seems, as the two young men find themselves caught up in a political conspiracy of international dimensions. In his debut feature, maverick filmmaker Nico Mastorakis presents us with a generous meze of non-stop car, bike and helicopter chases, a bevy of beautiful girls with guns, sensational softcore sex scenes, psychic thrills and Cold War political intrigue set against the picturesque landscapes of 70s Greece, all presented for the very first time in a new HD master in both widescreen and full-frame versions. It is one of five awards Titanic has won since its release in 1994. In 1993 he won an OBIE and TWO EMMY awards for his production of NATHANIEL HAWTHORNE'S THE BIRTHMARK. (THE BIRTHMARK has aired Nationally on PBS since the award) He edited the Academy Award nominated short film BRONX CHEERS. On the strength of his body of work Jay Woelfel was selected by The United States Information Agency as one of the six best film students in the United States to represent it at the 1986 Cannes Film Festival. From Jay's website Home Grown Horrors Vol. 1 Details This limited edition and painstakingly crafted box set (designed by Tom Hodge of The Dude Designs) is limited to 7,000 units and is only available here at VinegarSyndrome.com! Throughout the 1980s and 90s, independent and first time filmmakers across the United States saw new opportunities to create work in the horror genre. Often integrating the flavor and color of their inner-America locales into their work, they created films that, while inspired by mainstream trends, are about as far from Hollywood as one can get. Collected here are three diverse films, all produced in the late 1980s, providing a fascinating and entertaining glimpse into the forgotten world of Home Grown Horror. -- BEYOND DREAM'S DOOR: Lately, Ben hasn't been sleeping well. His dreams are filled with violent and terrifying visions of monsters and death. Seeking out answers, he begins to pursue the subtext and hidden meanings of his strange and terrifying nightmares, with the help of his professor and several friends. As the dreams grow increasingly lifelike, Ben fears that he's losing his grip on sanity, especially as those around him start turning up dead; horribly mutilated just like he's seen in his sleep... A low-on-budget but extremely high on ambition apocalyptic horror film, and the first feature written and directed by jack-of-all-trades filmmaker, Jay Woelfel, the Ohio lensed BEYOND DREAM’S DOOR skillfully blends elements of surrealism, mystery, and grotesque and violent horror set-pieces, resulting in a wholly singular vision. Sadly relegated direct-to-video, BEYOND DREAM’S DOOR has earned a sizable cult following and comes to Blu-ray for the very first time, from Vinegar Syndrome, painstakingly reconstructed shot by shot from its original, unedited 16mm camera negative, and is presented in its director's cut. directed by: Jay Woelfel starring: Nick Baldasare, Rick Kesler, Susan Pinsky, Norm Singer 1988 / 80 min / 1.33:1 / English 5.1 Surround • Region Free Blu-ray • Newly scanned & restored in 2k from its 16mm original camera negative (with tape inserts) • “Where Horror Lies” - a brand new extended making-of documentary featuring interviews with the cast and crew • Brand new group commentary track with: director Jay Woelfel, cinematographer Scott Spears, actor Nick Baldasare & actor Rick Kesler • Brand new commentary track with: actor Nick Baldasare, moderated by Dave Parker ARCHIVAL • Group commentary track • Commentary track with the director • “Behind Dream’s Door” - making-of documentary • “Getting Monstered” - fx featurette • Montage of unused and alternate takes • Unused and alternate fx footage • Bloopers and behind-the-scenes footage • Local news coverage • Multiple deleted scenes • Multiple trailers • Multiple short films with commentary tracks • Reversible cover artwork • English SDH subtitles -- WINTERBEAST: Weird things are happening in and around the Wild Goose Lodge, a snowy inn located in rural Massachusetts. People are being found dead and mutilated, while others are vanishing without a trace. Realizing that the violence might have something to do with Native American black magic and the ancient secrets of the area's historic totem poles, a trio of cops decide to investigate the goings on, and are faced with an array of monsters, ghouls, and even a sampling of murderous locals! A film which truly justifies the term 'unclassifiable,' and the sole feature from writer and director Christopher Thies, WINTERBEAST was shot on and off for nearly half a decade and in a mix of super 8mm and 16mm, resulting in a one of a kind piece of outsider art horror filmmaking that must be seen to be believed. Loaded with surreal dialogue, mind-blowing stop motion animation, homemade gore effects, and more than a few genuinely creepy moments, Vinegar Syndrome is delighted to bring this forgotten cult gem to Blu-ray, newly restored and reconstructed from it’s original film elements and presented in both its commonly seen released version along with a never before released workprint edit. directed by: Christopher Thies starring: Tim R. Although the rag tag team of collegiates would much rather party and get stoned than look for ghosts, it's not long before unexplained events begin to occur. Simone Simon stars as a Serbian émigré in Manhattan who believes that, because of an ancient curse, any physical intimacy with the man she loves (Kent Smith) will turn her into a feline predator. Lewton, a consummate producer-auteur who oversaw every aspect of his projects, found an ideal director in Jacques Tourneur, a chiaroscuro stylist adept at keeping viewers off-kilter with startling compositions and psychological innuendo. Together, they eschewed the canned effects of earlier monster movies in favor of shocking with subtle shadows and creative audio cues. Francis (Liam Aiken, A Series of Unfortunate Events), a dispossessed young man, is summoned to the secluded home of his wealthy childhood friend, JP Luret (Joe Adler, The Maze Runner), who is suffering from a mysterious affliction. Upon his arrival, Francis realizes that JP and his ethereal twin sister Vivian (Annalise Basso, Ouija: Origin of Evil) are the sole surviving members of the privileged Luret family, whose legacy has been one of depression and self-destruction, and the only occupants of their family estate. As the old friends attempt to reconnect, a number of inexplicable incidents begin to occur within the house, and Francis finds himself drawn into a world of malaise and despair, where an act of betrayal might provide his only way out...
