Petri maintains a tricky balance between absurdity and realism in telling the Kafkaesque tale of a Roman police inspector (a commanding Gian Maria Volonté) investigating a heinous crime—which he himself committed. Both a compelling character study and a disturbing commentary on the draconian government crackdowns in Italy in the late 1960s and early ’70s, Petri’s kinetic portrait of surreal bureaucracy is a perversely pleasurable rendering of controlled chaos. The film plunges into the nightmarish experiences of a portly, depressed psychic (Deborah Rose), whose involvement in a grisly child-murder case leads her and her detective partner (Ed Nelson) to an imposing, fortress-like mortuary. Chen the owner of the funeral home and prime suspect in the case, claims the three mummified corpses in question are not children but ancient demons known as “Kyoshi”. It seems the little monsters have been around for centuries as a result of an age-old curse and can only be placated with offerings of human flesh — with which the mortician has been supplying them his entire life. When Chen is jailed on murder charges, the under-fed ghouls awaken in search of dinner, trapping the staff inside the mortuary walls and devouring them. The survivors, including Rose and Nelson, use every means at their disposal to combat the demons, which have possessed the bodies of morgue attendant Mrs. Poopinplatz (Phyllis Diller) and her poodle, mutating them into hideous monsters. Tattoos and torture await women forced into servitude in Ishii's Inferno of Torture. Unable to repay a local lender, Yumi (Yumika Katayama) takes up an offer to serve as a geisha for two years with a promise of freedom once her debt is repaid. She quickly realizes that this is less a house of geishas than an extremely cruel brothel specializing in supplying western visitors with tattooed playthings. Taken under the wing of one of the leading tattoo artists vying for a coveted spot in the Shogun's good graces through his work, Yumi's body becomes a battleground as a rival artist becomes determined not to lose his spot at the top. When the madam, Otatsu (Mieko Fujimoto) trains her eye on the blossoming relationship between the benevolent artist Horihide (Teruo Yoshida) and his model, she makes sure than her stay is less than hospitable, inspiring the torturous inferno of the title. Following Ishii's legendary Shogun's Joy of Torture and Orgies of Edo, the prolific filmmaker still manages to turn up the heat in this incredibly violent and salacious entry in a filmography unlike any other. From the film's opening scene depicting some of the most perverse violence ever captured on screen, through to the shock ending that will leave the audience's mouths agape, there's nothing quite like Inferno of Torture. Tender romance clashes with vile sadism as a sea of tattooed female flesh floods nearly every frame of this film depicting Japan's Edo period as only Ishii could. Set in 1905, the story concerns a group of aristocratic women who acquire more epicurean tastes after drinking ox's blood as a cure for anemia. Some erotic component was usually imposed on Rollin by meddling producers, forcing him to add ill-fitting sex scenes into his productions, but here - more so than anywhere else in his filmography - the erotic scenes feel truly organic to the story. Due in large part to the sensuality and chemistry of Brigitte Lahaie (a popular Euro porn star in her second legitimate role for Rollin) and Franca Mai (subsequently a singer, producer-director of short films, web mogul and novelist), they are also classically lovely and legitimately erotic. Playful, elegantly crafted and brimming with some of the most unforgettable images in his filmography, FASCINATION embodies Jean Rollin at his very best - venturing outside his usual comfort zones and extending the definition of his filmic universe in the process. Violence begets violence in this explosive western that pits marauding Apaches against weary Indian fighters and naïve U.S. cavalrymen. Lancaster is McIntosh, a scout assigned to aid the cavalry in tracking down Ulzana (Joaquín Martínez, Jeremiah Johnson) and his band of renegade Indians. As the trail gets hotter, McIntosh tries to teach idealistic young Lieutenant DeBuin (Bruce Davison, The Crucible) that the only way to fight their escalating brutality and violence is with more force. This gritty action epic is the third of four films starring Lancaster and directed by Aldrich; the others were Apache (1954), Vera Cruz (1954) and Twilight’s Last Gleaming (1977). As her marriage to decorated war hero Oliver draws near, well-heeled Diana moves into her sprawling new London home where she starts to experience strange and terrifying nightmares. But are these blood-curdling night terrors merely the symptom of an unsettled mind, or the sign of something far sinister at work? Hounded by a pair of sleazy journalists (Timothy Spall and Jimmy Nail), Diana soon crosses paths with American tourist Jenny, who appears to have a strange connection to the foreboding house and its sinister past. For high schooler Samantha Baker (Molly Ringwald), her 16th birthday might be the worst day of her life. Her entire family has forgotten about it due to her older sister's impending wedding; her biggest crush, high school hunk Jake Ryan (Michael Schoeffling) has discovered an embarrassing "sex quiz" filled out by Sam in which she details how she is saving herself for him; and to make matters worse, she is hounded by a relentless nerd (Anthony Michael Hall) who won't take no for an answer. But Sam's sweet sixteen isn't over yet, and before the end of the night, all her birthday wishes could still come true... Taking the rude and crude humor of the teen sex comedies that came before it and placing it within the intimately portrayed perspective of a girl's mid-teenage-life crisis, Sixteen Candles is a bombshell of 80s pop culture that continues to be debated and beloved over three decades after its release. Delta Pi, a long-lasting sorority institution in the heart of Tampa, Florida, keeps that tradition "alive"...until late 1986 Spring Break when a serial killer was just coming to light. When a group of Delta Pi Sisters decide to pull a prank on one of their own; a Sister they hate, a Sister who's smarter than they are, prettier and too young to be part of the Delta Pi group; a prank that goes horribly wrong, fatally wrong during a traditional Spring Break ceremonial burning of the House Mother dummy to start the new season. It was supposed to be an embarrassing moment for Marissa Chambers in the hopes that she would step down as a member of the sorority, but that doesn't happen. After being burned to death, the serial killer strikes with dire consequences. A serial killer that may or may not be related to Marissa. It was a gruesome and devastating time for Sun State University. Almost half of the Delta Pi Sorority were wiped out. Was it a vengeful killing or were they at the right place at the wrong time? After the killings, the sorority had to be shut down, a first in the long running tradition of the exclusive group. 27 years later, the house reopens and new Sisters are elected. When Delta Pi girls begin dying one by one, it is suspected that the serial killer has returned but it's much more than that. The Burnt One has come. Die Die Delta Pi! Based on the Gerome Ragni, James Rado and Galt MacDermot stage musical, Hair stars John Savage (The Deer Hunter) as naïve country boy Claude Hooper Bukowski, a Vietnam War draftee who travels to New York where he’s swept up in a world of free love, hallucinogens and romance, courtesy of hippies Berger (Treat Williams), Jeannie (Annie Golden), Hud (Dorsey Wright) and Woof (Don Dacus). Beverly D’Angelo co-stars as Sheila, a beautiful debutante and the object of Claude’s affections. Hair boasts a catalog of hit songs — “Good Morning Starshine,” “I Got Life,” “Hair,” “Where Do I Go” — ingeniously staged and adeptly performed by its cast, including a heartbreaking rendition of “Easy to Be Hard,” a showstopper for actress Cheryl Barnes in her one and only screen performance.
