"Aloha, Bobby and Rose" Blu-Ray Review (Scorpion Films/ Doppelganger)![]() Written By Mrparka Doppelganger and Scorpion Films brings the 1975 tragic on the road love story, “Aloha, Bobby and Rose” to HD in a nice Blu-Ray release. The new Blu-Ray features interviews with the cast and crew. Bobby (Paul Le Matt) is a part time mechanic, ultimately an irresponsible loser but is not without charm and likability. While working on a car, he meets its owner, Rose (Dianne Hull), a sweet natured young girl and single mother. The duo begins a passionate relationship that quickly gets them in trouble. Without much of an option, the pair makes a run for it and tries to start a new life. Although Rose is in love with Bobby, she struggles with leaving her child behind. “Aloha, Bobby and Rose” was apparently a hit at its time of release. It’s not a huge surprise, either, as it sported a great soundtrack, well shot locations, a focus on muscle cars, and an endearing love story with conflicted and imperfect characters. When the film starts, it’s hard to know where it is going to end up; a prank gone wrong and a slow motion car accident. These moments come into the film like a juggernaut turning a blossoming romance into a nightmare. The character of Bobby is a simple one and his mistakes push the film forward but no matter how often he manages to make mistakes, the charm of actor Paul Le Matt makes him a tolerable and sympathetic character. The film keeps suspense by never letting the audience forget that the duo are wanted for a crime, this is done by having run ins with the police or having the love birds witness the run ins of others. Some of the most memorable scenes of the film tend to be had when the couple pair up with Buford (Tim McIntire) and Donna Sue (Leigh French). Buford is a larger than life character and not only brings comedy to the film, but a new sense of danger and a possible salvation for the pair. Bobby and Buford make for a great pair, a duo that fell short of their dreams. “Aloha, Bobby and Rose” doesn’t paint a happy world similar to most 70s films, it lets the audience know that a simple mistake can quickly ruin everything and does so in a powerful way. The Blu-Ray disc features candid interviews with Paul Le Matt, Robert Carradine, and Floyd Mutrux. The interviews are informative and even a little on the sad side when it comes to Le Matt and Mutrux. They don’t hold back their feelings or how their careers ended, but show insight on how one can be at the top or on his way to it and with one mistake or tragedy, similar to Bobby and Rose’s, change their path. “Aloha, Bobby and Rose” seems to have some damage to the source of the master, but looks and sounds pretty good. The locations, especially the bright city lights against the dark skies, stick out; even when some rare green lines appear. A welcomed released of a solid 70s forgotten hit. About the Film Bobby has a new ‘68 Camaro and a dead-end job. Rose has a young son and a nowhere life. One night, they meet, fall in love and share a dream of leaving the seedy side of Hollywood for the easy life of Hawaii. But when an innocent prank goes tragically wrong, Bobby and Rose are on the run from the law and for their lives. As they take to the highway, they find that paradise is just out of reach...and that ‘aloha’ can also mean ‘goodbye.’ Aloha, Bobby and Rose stars Paul Le Mat (Melvin & Howard, Death Valley, American Graffiti) and Dianne Hull (Girls On The Road, The Fifth Floor), with Robert Carradine (Blackout, Revenge of the Nerds), Tim McIntire (The Choirboys, Fast Walking) and Edward James Olmos (in his first feature credited role). Featuring classic songs by Elton John, Bob Dylan, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Jr. Walker and The All-Stars and The Temptations. This is a road movie like you’ve never seen...and a love story you’ll never forget from a brand new HD master!!! In A Pistol For Ringo, the eponymous hero, played by Giuliano Gemma (Day of Anger, Tenebrae), infiltrates a ranch of Mexican bandits to save a beautiful hostage (Nieves Navarro, Death Walks in High Heels). In The Return Of Ringo, the gunslinger, now a veteran of war, disguises himself as a Mexican in order to take revenge on outlaws who have stolen his property and taken his wife. Hugely successful upon their original release, thanks in part to the skilled direction of Duccio Tessari (The Bloodstained Butterfly, Death Occurred Last Night), the Ringo films proved influential on the Italian western, spawning numerous unofficial sequels, due to their gripping set-pieces and unforgettable musical scoring by Ennio Morricone. What serial killer movie would you like to see get made and released that doesn't already exist? Real life serial killer/murder case that you find the most interesting?

Hey Dave! Great stuff as usual. While I both agree and disagree about Rock'n'Roll High School, I respect your opinion. I stood on line for 5 hrs to go to the NYC premiere of the film, and sat through it twice. I was hooked right off the bat, for both the good and bad reasons you mention. Yeah, it's silly as all hell. While I don't have (nor have seen) the Blu-ray version, it probably comments in there that Cheap Trick were up for the role that went to the Ramones (who yes, were terrible actors, but that is actually what they talked like in real life...I've hung out with them a couple of times. There are so many great quotes in it, like "This is the big time, girlie; this is rock and roll" and "Pizza!" Riff Randall was a goddess, haha (though I also thought Dey Young, who later joined a cult, I believe, was cute as a button back then. While some of the songs are repetitious, they are sung by different people (such as Riff and the Ramones doing the title track). Actually, the film version of the song is different than the one on the (non-soundtrack) Ramones album. Anyway, I thought the film was a hoot and still enjoy it, and can yet totally respect and understand your feelings towards it. Oh, in case you didn't know, Paul Bartel and Mary Waranov were married in real life (though more beard than anything else). Thanks for listening!

That is all interesting, i enjoy it, Jeremy not as much lol. You are wrong about one thing Paul and Mary weren't married in real life it was just what everyone thought, Paul was gay.

Have ever seen a film called "Highway of Heartache" directed by Gregory Wild? It is totally bizarre and I believe a Canadian film! It's hard to find nowadays but if you can get your hands on it I'd be curious as what you think! It is also offensive in every way possible, but in a John Waters kind a way! Thanks
