This special Ed-ition is thanks to our friends over at Arrow Video. Ed is a mild mannered man who is forced to censor out the violence and gore from a series of slasher films entitled “Loose Limbs” so they may be sold to European territories. The constant barrage of blood and sex causes Ed to lose his grip on reality, turning him into a drooling psychopath. Hallucinations and murder soon lead Ed into his final conflict with a group of commandos and the company’s errand boy. Johan Rudebeck plays the role of Ed in an over the top fashion; he seemingly has fun with the role the entire time. Johan creates a unique lunatic unlike any other and it makes for an enjoyable viewing experience. He manages to overcome the dubbing due to his physical energy/performance and manages to make the film his own. “Evil Ed” is a homage piece and has a constant flow of quotes lifted from other horror films. These quotes are used to wink at the audience, if done poorly they could have become an annoying distraction instead of playful. Johan is a great vessel to deliver some of the bigger ones, an example is when Ed finally snaps at his wife and begins chasing her “Coming to get your Barbara!” “Evil Ed” was spawned from the love of splatter films like Raimi's “Evil Dead” films and Jackson's “Bad Taste.” This doesn't stop it from being fairly original in its set up and delivery while still being homage. As far as the film’s comedy goes, it's fairly stupid, but usually funny, and even creates some unforgettable quotes. The most memorable being when the sleazy boss angrily asks Ed "Where in the fuck is my beaver rape scene!" after Ed unknowingly cuts it due to the obscenity. The hallucinations in the film take us out of the slasher genre, at least for a little bit. These wild moments give glimpses of demons and even a little animatronic creature that lives in Ed’s fridge. These effects are top notch, fun, organic, and with plentiful splatter. It's a surprise this team of artists and filmmakers didn't make a bigger name for themselves. “Evil Ed” manages to turn itself into an action film in the final act as a group of commandos enter to stop him; this scene sports plenty of gunplay and squibs. This ending fits perfect with the constant insanity that has been building throughout. The ending makes sure “Evil Ed” finally reaches utter lunacy; it places a cherry on top of a warped sundae so high up that it will never ever come down from brain land. The new Blu-ray set includes two cuts of the film; the original as well as an extended cut containing the much talked about balcony scene. The set also includes a 45 minute documentary with cast and crew, a before Evil Ed featurette, a Beyond Evil Ed featurette, deleted scenes, and a 3 hour feature length version of the documentary, which is an in-depth look at bringing this edition to life and the trajectory of “Evil Ed”. “Evil Ed” looks and sounds great for a low budget Swedish Splatter film from the 90’s and it’s nice to see the cult classic get some much earned love. EVIL ED https://mvdshop.com/products/evil-ed-blu-ray-dvd-blu-ray WHEN HIS MIND BLOWS, ANYTHING GOES! A blood-soaked love letter to the splatter films of the '80s, video rental favourite Evil Ed returns in a brand-new Special EDition featuring an extended cut of the feature and hours of stomach-churning bonus features! Mild-mannered film technician Edward enjoys his job. That is, until he finds himself transferred from his regular post to the "Splatter and Gore department", where he's forced to edit hours upon hours of grisly video nasty footage. Traumatized by the onscreen violence, Ed starts to lose his grip on reality - with ghastly (and bloody) consequences... Owing a debt to films such as The Evil Dead, Re-animator and the early splatter classics of Peter Jackson, Evil Ed is a veritable smorgasbord of flying limbs, exploding heads, busty babes and creepy creatures! Bonus Materials 3-DISC LIMITED EDITION CONTENTS Two versions of the film! Original Stereo and 5.1 Audio Options Optional English subtitles for the deaf and hard of hearing Reversible sleeve featuring original and newly commissioned artwork by Graham Humphreys Collector’s booklet with new writing on the film DISCS 1 & 2 (BLU-RAY + DVD) – THE SPECIAL ED-ITION CUT World premiere of the newly-extended version of the feature [95 min] Keep ’Em Heads Rollin’ – making-of documentary Reconstructing Edward – featurette on the creation of the Special EDition cut Deleted scenes Bloopers Teasers and Trailers Still Gallery DISC 3 (BLU-RAY) – THE ORIGINAL CUT [LIMITED EDITION EXCLUSIVE] Original Cut [93 mins] Lost in Brainland – never-before-seen extended 3 hour version of the making-of documentary PLUS OTHER SURPRISES!!! THE CLIMBER https://mvdshop.com/products/climber-the-blu-ray-dvd-blu-ray After shooting cult favourites Flesh for Frankenstein and Blood for Dracula in Europe, Joe Dallesandro spent much of the seventies making movies on the continent. In France he worked with auteurs like Louis Malle and Walerian Borowczyk, and in Italy he starred in all manner of genre fare from poliziotteschi (Savage Three, Season for Assassins) to nunsploitation (Killer Nun). The Climber follows in the tradition of gangster classics such as The Public Enemy and Scarface as it charts the rise and inevitable fall of small-time smuggler Aldo (Dallesandro). Beaten and abandoned by the local gang boss after he tries to skim off some profits for himself, Aldo forms his own group of misfits in order to exact revenge... Written and directed by Pasquale Squitieri (Gang War in Naples, I Am the Law), The Climber is a prime example of Italian crime cinema - a high-octane action-thriller full of brawls, fistfights, shootouts and explosions! Brand new 4K restoration of the film from the original negative High Definition Blu-ray (1080p) and Standard Definition DVD presentations Original Italian soundtrack in uncompressed PCM mono with optional newly-translated English subtitles Alternative English-language soundtrack with optional English subtitles for the deaf and hard-of-hearing Little Joe's Adventures in Europe, a brand-new interview with Joe Dallesandro on his numerous European film appearances during the 1970s and early 1980s Reversible sleeve with original and newly commissioned artwork by Chris Malbon FIRST PRESSING ONLY: Booklet featuring new writing on the film by Roberto Curti, author of Italian Crime Filmography, 1968-1980 SPOTLIGHT ON A MURDERER https://mvdshop.com/products/spotlight-on-a-murderer-blu-ray-dvd-blu-ray When the terminally ill Count Hervé de Kerloquen (Pierre Brasseur, Goto, Isle of Love) vanishes without trace, his heirs are told that they have to wait five years before he can be declared legally dead, forcing them to devise ways of paying for the upkeep of the vast family château in the meantime. While they set about transforming the place into an elaborate son et lumière tourist attraction, they are beset by a series of tragic accidents - if that's really what they are... The little-known third feature by the great French maverick Georges Franju (Eyes Without a Face, Judex) is a delightfully playful romp through Agatha Christie territory, whose script (written by Pierre Boileau and Thomas Narcejac of Les Diaboliques and Vertigo fame) is mischievously aware of the hoariest old murder-mystery clichés and gleefully exploits as many of them as possible. They're equally aware of the detective story's antecedents in the Gothic novel, a connection that Franju is only too happy to emphasise visually at every opportunity thanks to his magnificent main location. A young Jean-Louis Trintignant (The Conformist, Amour) is amongst the Kerloquen heirs. Bonus Materials High Definition Blu-ray (1080p) and Standard Definition DVD presentations of the feature, restored by Gaumont Uncompressed French Mono 1.0 PCM Audio Optional English subtitles Vintage production featurette from 1960, shot on location and including interviews with Georges Franju and actors Pascale Audret, Pierre Brasseur, Marianne Koch, Dany Saval and Jean-Louis Trintignant Original theatrical trailer Reversible sleeve with original and newly commissioned artwork by Peter Strain FIRST PRESSING ONLY: Booklet featuring new writing on the film by Chris Fujiwara STARLIGHT https://mvdshop.com/products/starlight-blu-ray When magic is no longer an illusion Set in the dunes near the North Sea, a small circus company is suffering from a serious lack of audience for their shows. The most to be worried of is the two love triangle among the troupe leading the desperate ones to call on magic and spells. Angele, the diaphanous ballerina, her clown lover Elliot and the circus ringmaster, full of cruelty and disturbed by fits of schizophrenia on one side, and Zohra in love with Elliot, haunted by an uncanny conscience. Secrets, jealousy, envy will progressively take hold of them and trigger some irreversible acts. http://grindhousevideo.com/ Shop at Grindhouse video for horror, cult, and more!! It has been a few years since I saw Evil Ed but I remember I had to go tell all my friends afterward how absolutely bizarre it was. I was just waiting for a Blu Ray release and couldn't be happier that Arrow picked it up.
