"Hyde's Secret Nightmare" Blu-Ray Review (Darkside Releasing)
A scientist who suffers from impotence explores unusual methods, including experimenting on corpses and on himself.
An homage in equal parts to "Frankenstein", "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde", and the erotic films of late Italian horror auteur Joe D'Amato, Hyde's Secret Nightmare is itself a wild erotic horror film from the highly prolific Italian producer/director Domiziano Cristopharo. The story colourfully strobes through a cinematic landscape of obsession, paranoia, phobia, perversion, and transgression, as Henry, a scientist, attempts to create a cure for his own impotence, and in doing so enlists the help of his assistant Hans and a necrophiliac gravedigger Abdul to illegally retrieve several corpses for his over-the-top experiments. After testing the experimental serum on himself, the mad doctor finds himself possessing the body of a woman, Eva Hyde (Roberta Gemma), who becomes engulfed in a world of dark eroticism where sex seems the only way to attain a state of well-being.

"Lake Michigan Monster" Blu-Ray Review (Arrow Video)
This Cult Classic that combines H.P. Lovecraft with early Sam Raimi and Mystery Science Theater 3000 in one movie!
All aboard! The combined spirits of H.P. Lovecraft, early Sam Raimi and Mystery Science Theater 3000 inhabit this action-packed tale of nautical derring-do and monster mayhem - winner of the Audience Award for Best International Feature at the 2019 Fantasia Film Festival. On the shores of Lake Michigan, the eccentric Captain Seafield (Ryland Brickson Cole Tews, who also writes and directs) enlists a colourful crew of misfits in a bid to slay the hellish sea monster that prowls the murky depths. But as Seafield's obsession with exacting revenge on the creature that killed his father threatens to consume him, can weapons expert Sean Shaughnessy (Erick West), sonar whiz Nedge Pepsi (Beulah Peters) and former N.A.V.Y. - Nautical Athletes and Adventure Yunit - officer Dick Flynn (Daniel Long) hold the show together? Shot in gloriously retro black and white on a shoestring budget, with most of the cast also performing multiple roles behind the camera, Lake Michigan Monster is an inventive, irreverent and riotously entertaining ode to the classic monster movies of yesteryear: an absurdist urban legend guaranteed to appeal to the big kid in all of us.

"Welcome to the Circle" Blu-Ray Review (Artsploitation Films)
One of the most aggressively bizarre films in recent memory, “Welcome to the Circle” is a genuinely nightmarish, creepy, trippy, almost Lynchian Canadian "horror" film about a sinister mind control cult and the survivors who are trying to escape its clutches. A camping misadventure forces a young girl and her father into the realm of a demon-worshiping cult known as The Circle, a New Age-ish commune living in cabins in the woods and headed by an L. Ron Hubbard-like zealot. As the pair become trapped in The Circle’s increasingly frightening sphere of indoctrination, a case-hardened professional cult deprogrammer and his two clients attempt to kidnap/reclaim one of group’s members. Grizzly rituals are soon revealed to be part of a terrifying, surreal, alternate reality that has been constructed by the cult’s mysterious, isolated leader. Escape is the only objective, but all of them are trapped in The Circle. “Welcome to the Circle” stars Heather Doerksen (“Pacific Rim”), Matthew MacCaull (“Tomorrowland”, “Star Trek Beyond”) and Taylor Dianne Robinson (“Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn”). It was written and directed by David Fowler (writer of “Born in China” and several nature documentaries).

Blindspot Episode 26 "The Tenant" Blu-Ray Review (Scream Factory)
An apartment with an unhappy past sets the stage for filmmaker Roman Polanski's riveting psychological suspense thriller, The Tenant. Polanski stars as Trelkovsky, a quiet, timid file clerk increasingly overshadowed with dread and fear after he moves into his new apartment. Adding to his paranoia are the building's other occupants, who do nothing to alleviate his growing obsession with the untimely, tragic fate of the apartment's previous tenant. Is Trelkovsky's dread truly justified – or is it simply the result of his seemingly disintegrating mental state? A brilliant international cast – Isabelle Adjani, Melvyn Douglas, Jo Van Fleet, Bernard Fresson and Shelley Winters – and Polanski's own penchant for delivering unprecedented suspense (Repulsion, Rosemary's Baby, Chinatown) make The Tenant a haunting, riveting film classic!
