Producer Fabrizio De Angelis steps in to direct this Italian Jaws rip-off cheese fest. It’s loaded to the brim with entertaining action and carnage. “Killer Crocodile” is often ridiculous, but never boring. When a group of environmentalists lose a friend in the swamp while checking for radioactive material they report it to the local judge who claims foul play and suspects the environmentalists; although it’s quite evident the judge is hiding something. Soon enough, it’s uncovered that there is a giant croc responsible for the disappearance and death of their friend as well as the death of several locals. A swamp dwelling hunter reluctantly teams up with the group to stop the croc and the corruption. Italian staples Riz Ortolani, one of the finest composers, and F/X artists Gianetto De Rossi help bring this low budget creature feature to life with a nice jaws inspired score and solid special effects. The crocodile, although not very flexible, still has power to frighten with its massive size. The croc is most effective in the opening scene where a pair of fishermen meet their end when the croc explodes out of the darkness. Some unique camera angles add some spice to the film. A shot from inside the boat shows the angry reptile tower over its prey, mouth open and ready to feast, adding quite a bit of gusto to one of the attacks. “Killer Crocodile” is often hilarious due to the very typical pollution plot of the time and its overdramatic dubbing. Yet these negatives actually seem to help add a level of charm and entertainment without going to over the top. Included on the special edition release is also the sequel, “Killer Crocodile 2”. This time around, effects artist De Rossi steps into the role as director. “Killer Crocodile 2” is more of the same; when a reporter covers a story on the swamp she learns that the mayor has lied about cleaning up the radioactive material and wants the public to have access immediately. Talk about a Jaws rip-off, right? A second croc emerges and begins munching on locals. Soon enough the duo from the first film come to the rescue. The film is just as cheesy as the first and almost as fun. De Rossi seems to have included a little more gore this time around. Among the stand out scenes is one that is as barbaric as it is cheesy. When a group of nuns and school children are attacked and eaten, it’s hard to keep from chuckling. As disturbing as it sounds, the tone of the film really makes it feel like a comedy. The most ambitious scene involves the giant croc taking down an entire hut into the swamp. This scene is not only immensely effective, but works better than anything else in the film, especially the miniatures which are quite obviously that. The score seems to be a rehash by Riz and there isn’t much more to be mentioned differing from the first film. On the double disc release we are treated to a handful of interviews including one with Gianetto De Rossi, Anthony Crenna, Pietro Genuardi, and the DP Federico Del Zoppo. These interviews paint a great story of how the set of “Killer Crocodile” was often times scary and difficult. Included in the stories are a couple wild ones involving the death of a crew member and one insane story about forced drug use. On the bonus disc is a wonderful feature length about De Rossi entitled “The Prince Of Plasma: The Giannetto De Rossi Story”. The documentary covers De Rossi’s entire career and sports interviews with both film experts and the man, himself. It is truly a wonderful addition to the set. All and all Severin has done a good job with two vastly enjoyable films. Description More than a decade after the Spielberg blockbuster, a dream team of shock maestros – including producer-turned-director Fabrizio De Angelis (DR. BUTCHER M.D., EMANUELLE AND THE LAST CANNIBALS), screenwriter Dardano Sacchetti (BAY OF BLOOD, DEMONS), gore guru Giannetto De Rossi (ZOMBIE, THE BEYOND) and Oscar®-nominated composer Riz Ortolani (MONDO CANE, CANNIBAL HOLOCAUST) – created one of the most ridiculously entertaining JAWS rip-offs in ItaloSleaze history: When a humongous crocodile begins chomping on a tropical island community, a group of idealistic young environmentalists will clash with a crusty redneck hunter to destroy the monster reptile spawned by toxic waste. Richard Anthony Crenna (ROSWELL), Sherrie Rose (DEMON KNIGHT), Ennio Girolami (GREAT WHITE) and Hollywood legend Van Johnson (THE CAINE MUTINY) star in this Crocsploitation classic now scanned in 2k from the original negative. We’ve also included the sequel Killer Crocodile 2 in this incredible set (only 4000 units available) Killer Crocodile Special Features: The Fearless Crocodile Hunter: Interview with Actor Pietro Genuardi It Crawls: Interview with Cinematographer Federico Del Zoppo In the Jaws of the Crocodile: Interview with Special Makeup FX Artist Giannetto De Rossi Of Crocodiles and Men: Interview with Actor Richard Anthony Crenna Trailer English with Closed Captioning Killer Crocodile 2 Special Features: The Prince Of Plasma: The Giannetto De Rossi Story Trailer Deleted Scenes English & Italian Audio/Closed Captioning Severin Films – https://severin-films.com/ “Killer Crocodile 1 and 2” Blu-Ray Bundle – https://severin-films.com/shop/killer-crocodile-slip/ "My Samurai" Blu-Ray Review (MVD Rewind Collection)![]() Teacher. Weekly questions: Have yet to go to a horror con but I like how they sometimes have cast reunions and I thought it was really cool that you got to interview Fred Vogel.
